The beaten Southern Combination Premier Division play-off finalists had the better of the early chances and took the lead after 32 minutes.

Will Fazakerley converted a penalty after the striker was fouled in the area.

Fazakerley and Sam Murray went close for the islanders early in the second half.

But it was Pagham who thought they should have had equalised in the 84th minute through Kaleem Haytham.

He and his team-mates felt his shot had gone over the line and struck part of the goal, but the officials ruled it had hit the post.

The moment was key as the islanders went on to win the game – Fazakerley made it 2-0 in the third minute of stoppage time as he finished well after being put through.

Murray then headed in a 97th-minute corner to seal the win as Guernsey started the season as one of eight teams in their division to win their opening match.
