Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal reportedly worth €20m.
Grimaldo has had a stellar stint at Leverkusen, playing a key role in their 2023-24 Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double under Xabi Alonso.
The full-back, who is part of Spain’s World Cup squad, joined Leverkusen from Benfica in 2023.
Since the start of the 2023-24 campaign, Grimaldo has registered 71 goal involvements, which is 20 more than any other defender across Europe’s top five leagues in all competitions.

Indeed, Grimaldo tops the charts among defenders for both goals (30) and assists (41) in that time, as well as chances created (326).
He has also scored nine direct free-kick goals in the past three seasons, which is more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Grimaldo will now return to his home nation ahead of next season, with Atletico signing the 30-year-old on a contract until 2030.
