Gov Kefas reaffirms commitment to rebuild Taraba Govt House

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to rebuilding and modernising the State Government House to meet the demands of contemporary governance and better serve the people of the state.

Kefas gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the reports of the Zonal Security Summit Committee and the Committee on the Acquisition and Compensation of Land for the expansion of the Government House.

Speaking on the report of the Committee on the Acquisition and Compensation of Land for the expansion of the Government House, Kefas said the complex had remained largely unchanged for decades and was no longer adequate for the demands of modern governance.

According to the report, “The proposed expansion was necessary to provide adequate space and modern facilities required for effective administration, while bringing the Government House in line with contemporary standards,” the committee chairman said.

According to him, several existing structures within the Government House complex also require reconstruction, rehabilitation and upgrading to improve their functionality.

Earlier, the chairman of the Zonal Security Summit Committee and Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzena, said the committee carried out its assignment in line with the mandate given to it by the governor.

Bonzena said the committee considered relevant security concerns and made recommendations expected to strengthen security coordination and improve the safety of residents across the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Committee on Land Acquisition and Compensation, Rev Jolly Nyame, represented by the Head of the Civil Service, Dr Ahmed Kara, said the committee held extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders and landowners within the proposed expansion area.

He said affected landowners and other stakeholders were engaged during the process, adding that the government’s plans for the expansion of the Government House were clearly communicated and discussed.

The reports are expected to provide the Taraba State Government with recommendations to guide policy decisions on security matters, as well as the planned expansion, reconstruction and redevelopment of the Government House.

The governor’s commitment to the project signals plans to transform the decades-old complex into a more functional and modern administrative centre capable of supporting the operations of the state government.
