Georgia Tech cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe said that he was doing well after he was stretchered off the field and taken to Grady Hospital after a scary collision with teammate Jordan Walker during the Yellow Jackets’ loss to Tennessee on Saturday.
Mbakwe’s head hit Walker’s knee as the two were making a tackle in the third quarter of the 45-24 defeat. Walker was carried from the field with an apparent knee injury while training staff moved to immobilize Mbakwe.

Georgia Tech coach Brent Key didn’t have an immediate update on Mbakwe’s status in his postgame news conference, but the defensive back posted to social media Saturday night that he was “fine and feeling well.”

Mbakwe joined Georgia Tech in the offseason after spending the first two seasons of his college career at Alabama. When he signed with the Crimson Tide, he was the No. 16 recruit in the country and the No. 2 cornerback in the class of 2024 behind Georgia’s Ellis Robinson IV.

The Yellow Jackets allowed 299 yards rushing on 45 carries and turned the ball over twice on Saturday night. In Week 1, Georgia Tech had a late lead against Colorado, but didn’t run off as much clock as it could have and the Buffaloes had 1:40 left for what turned out to be the game-winning TD drive in a 14-13 win.
