FSU softball loses National Player of the Year to transfer portal

The most impressive player in college softball this spring has hit the transfer portal.

On Monday, star Florida State shortstop Isa Torres announced that she would transfer to play her final season of eligibility. As a junior in 2026, Torres batted .530 with a .591 on-base percentage and a .978 slugging percentage. She hit 16 home runs with 56 RBI and was named the National Player of the Year.

Florida State earned the No. 9 national seed in the NCAA tournament this past season, but it was eliminated in the Tallahassee Regional final by UCF. Now, it also has to replace its top player this offseason.

A native of Georgetown, Texas, Torres is a two-time First Team All-American and two-time First Team All-ACC selection. She also earned Second Team All-ACC honors as a true freshman in 2024.

There will certainly be a major market for her services, as any team that lands her would likely become an immediate Women’s College World Series contender.
