Fresh controversy trails WAEC recruitment test as applicants allege technical failures

According to him, repeated attempts to access the examination platform were unsuccessful.

“I tried logging in till 2 pm, but the WAEC site was not online. I set on my journey back to my base town, got home and tried logging in again, and the site is telling me I have already completed the exam process,” he said.

Another applicant, Adewale, who uses the X handle @Haryormikhun, alleged that he could not access the platform throughout the 40-minute period allocated for the test.

“I didn’t even get any chance to log in, let alone do the test. The website was down throughout the period of 40 minutes test duration,” he wrote.

Erhuen Titilayo, identified as @tuntomiwa on X, also criticised the council over the reported challenges, linking the complaints to the ongoing debate surrounding the 2026 WASSCE results.

“WAEC and glitch na 5/6. We were complaining; people were saying it’s because of malpractice. Is this recruitment examination glitch also malpractice on the part of applicants? Failure nation, failed system. It is well with upcoming generations,” the applicant wrote.

However, WAEC dismissed the allegations that the recruitment exercise was affected by technical problems.

When contacted on Sunday, the council’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the examination was successfully concluded.

“There were no glitches, and the examinations were concluded,” she said.

The complaints come as WAEC continues to face scrutiny over the 2026 WASSCE results.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools recently raised concerns about the examination results and called for improvements to WAEC’s technology and digital systems.

The association also requested further investigation into some of the concerns surrounding the results, while stakeholders called on the examination body to provide clearer evidence linking its anti-malpractice measures to the pattern of results released.

Meanwhile, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, has defended the credibility of the 2026 WASSCE results, insisting that the council’s marking, processing and moderation procedures remain reliable.

He also said WAEC had introduced measures such as computer-based assessment, question randomisation and serialisation as part of efforts to strengthen the integrity of its examinations.

The latest complaints by recruitment applicants have now added to concerns about WAEC’s digital systems, as stakeholders continue to await further developments over the review of the 2026 WASSCE results.
