Four newly-crowned British champions – Alex Mackay, Madeline Rosher, Angus Doig and Drew Burns – are among the nine weightlifters selected to represent Scotland at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Agata Herbert is the sole returning athlete from Birmingham 2022, where she was seventh in the women’s 76kg event, and hopes her experience will be valuable to the eight Games debutants at the SECC from 26-30 July.
“Birmingham was an incredible experience and something I’ll never forget,” a “proud” Herbert said.
“It’s great knowing I can go into these Games with that experience behind me and I want to enjoy every moment of it.
“I’ve worked hard to get back to this stage and I’m very excited about the prospect.”
In addition to the four British champions, Beth Ashbee and Iain Wilson were British silver medallists last year.
Meanwhile, 19-year–old Corey Duncan has represented Great Britain at European and world junior championships and Tom Wright wins selection despite only making the switch from CrossFit two years ago.
