POTOMAC PARK — Bryson Krumpach worked a bases-loaded walk in the eighth for the lead, rebuffing a Martinsburg Blue Sox comeback in Fort Cumberland Post 13’s 7-6 win on Wednesday at Memorial Field.
Fort Cumberland (5-2) fired the first shot in the nine-inning affair, scoring five runs in the third for a 5-1 lead before Martinsburg (6-2) plated two in the fourth and three in the eighth to surge ahead 6-5.
Post 13 won despite getting out-hit 8-4. Myles Bascelli tripled, Kohen Madden doubled, and Bascelli, Madden and Dane Van Slyke garnered an RBI each.
Bascelli pitched six solid frames in a no-decision, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings, striking out six and walking two.
Coye Resh registered as the winning arm giving up a run on two hits in two innings of relief.
Martinsburg’s Cam Gill had three hits and scored twice, and Brett Stuart had a pair of base hits.
Gill pitched all eight innings, expending 149 pitches in the process. He allowed seven runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts and six walks.
Fort Cumberland (4-1 Mountain District) hosts Garrett County Post 71/208/214 (1-5, 1-4 district) at Memorial Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Berkeley 15 Potomac Valley 1
KEYSER, W.Va. — Berkeley Post 14 exploded for 15 runs in the first two frames in a five-inning rout of Potomac Valley Post 64 on Wednesday at Keyser High.
Potomac Valley (1-1) was out-hit 14-4. Jaxon Hare accounted for half of its knocks, and Carson Durst doubled. Lucas Williamson was tabbed with the loss on the mound.
Berkeley’s Liam Healey blasted a solo home run two batters into the game and was one of five Post 14 batters with multiple hits. Trace Hough drove in three runs, and Sven Dupree, Cole Smith and Healey had a pair of RBIs each.
Brett Pederson was the winning pitcher, giving up a run on three hits in an inning of middle relief.
Potomac Valley hosts Garrett County Post 71/208/214 on Friday at 6 p.m. at Keyser High.
