Former Warrior Monta Ellis named GM of Alcorn State basketball

After retiring from the game in 2027, Monta Ellis is taking the next step in his basketball journey. After 12 seasons in the association, Ellis will take his talents to the college level. Although he never played college basketball, Ellis will become the general manager of the Alcorn State basketball team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

In 2005, Ellis was drafted by the Warriors with the No. 40 overall selection out of Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi. Alcorn State is in Claiborne County, Mississippi, not far from Jackson. Ellis and head coach Jake Morton will be tasked with turning around the HBCU basketball program. The Braves finished second to last in the SWAC last season with a 9-23 overall record.

After being drafted by the Warriors in 2005 out of high school, Ellis played seven seasons in the Bay Area with Golden State. During his time with the Warriors, Ellis averaged 19.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Ellis went on to play for the Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks over his 12-year career.
