Former Texas A&M DL cleared to return to Ravens after surgery

It has been a challenging year for former Texas A&M defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike, who went from one of the NFL’s premier interior disruptors to facing the possibility of never playing another down again.

After a breakout 2023 season and a new contract with the Baltimore Ravens, Madubuike followed up with a strong 2024 campaign, posting 6.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Two games into the 2025 season, he already had two sacks and nine quarterback pressures, showing signs of returning to his dominant 2023 form until disaster struck. Following Baltimore’s Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns, Madubuike began experiencing concerning symptoms in his neck and back.

The Ravens later confirmed a neck injury, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Neck injuries are always unsettling, especially for defensive linemen, because the severity is often unclear and the risk of long‑term nerve damage increases dramatically in a sport built on violent contact.

Determined to get healthy and preserve his career, Madubuike underwent surgery in April. After months of rehab and consultations with specialists, an independent spine and cervical expert officially cleared him to return to football activities. With that encouraging news, the Ravens placed him on the PUP list entering the 2026 season.

The designation gives Madubuike the runway to ease back into the rhythm of an NFL offseason, rebuild strength, and gradually reintroduce contact under the supervision of Baltimore’s medical and performance staff. It’s a small but meaningful step toward seeing him back on the field at some point this season. A comeback that once felt far from guaranteed.
