Former Steelers wide receiver could be a fascinating addition after roster cuts

Despite the moves the Pittsburgh Steelers have made this offseason, there are still spots on the roster that could use an upgrade, should the opportunity present itself. One of those positions is wide receiver. Rookie Kaden Wetjen has been less-than impressive during minicamp and the jury is still out on Roman Wilson.

This could mean waiting until teams make their final roster cuts just before the start of the regular season. And a name to consider that Steelers’ fans will recognize is current Washington Commanders wide receiver Van Jefferson.

Jefferson spent 2024 with the Steelers and hauled in 24 passes despite a deep room of pass catchers and some terrible quarterback play. Jefferson was actually listed as a starter in 12 games that season. Jefferson then left in free agency for to play for the Tennessee Titans and caught 29 passes in six starts. Now, Jefferson finds himself with the Commanders but squarely on the roster bubble. If the Steelers get through training camp and have to cut ties with Wetjen or Wilson, Jefferson is a low-risk veteran option.
