Former Penn State Football Player Hospitalized with Spine Fractures After Hit-and-Run That Killed His Fiancée

Former Penn State football player Kyle Vasey has been hospitalized after a man allegedly intentionally struck him and his fiancée, Corinne More, killing her.

Vasey, 30, and More, 35, were out for a walk in their Colorado neighborhood around 10:30 a.m., local time on Monday, June 8, when 28-year-old Adam Bauserman, who was reportedly already driving with a suspended license from a DUI, allegedly intentionally drove his vehicle into them and another person, according to CBS News.

The driver made a U-turn to drive back by the scene “slowly” and observe the damage after the crash before leaving the scene, witnesses told the outlet. Witnesses reportedly followed Bauserman more than five miles from the scene to Daniels Park, where police took him into custody.

Vasey suffered multiple injuries, including three spine fractures and four broken ribs, according to a GoFundMe set up by his parents, Bruce and Shelley Vasey. A doctor said in an affidavit that he is at substantial risk for permanent disfigurement or death, according to CBS.

“Kyle endured multiple fractures all over his body. His left arm was the only limb not injured,” his parents said in the GoFundMe. “So far he has had six surgeries. At this point, he’s still on a ventilator and is sedated to help manage the pain while his body recovers.”

More died from her injuries. A third victim, 72-year-old Dianne Windes, also passed away, according to CBS.

Deputies said Bauserman was “unusually quiet” after the crash, according to CBS. He allegedly asked police if he had “killed the man” while speaking with authorities. Police believe that the driver did not know the victims personally, per the outlet.

“This was a horrific scene,” Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, per CBS.

“Thankfully, there was no major head trauma, and everyone is optimistic about his physical recovery,” Bruce and Shelley wrote of the athlete on GoFundMe.

“However, it is expected to be a long road of recovery. His beautiful fiancée did not survive. At this time, we are asking for your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery of his body, heart, and mind. However, any donations to help with his ever-climbing medical bills would be greatly appreciated,” his parents said.

As of Tuesday, June 9, the fundraiser has raised more than $31,000 of its $40,000 goal.

Bauser has been charged with seven felonies and one misdemeanor, per the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. His charges include: vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving death, two counts of vehicular assault, second-degree assault – crimes to at-risk person, and driving a motor vehicle when license under restrain.

His bond is set at $100,000.
