STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State matchup looks different this year.

After 21 seasons of Mike Gundy coaching OSU and 10 seasons of Matt Campbell at Iowa State, both schools have new head coaches leading the team this season.

So far, OSU’s Eric Morris‘ offensive rebuild is finding more success than ISU’s Jimmy Rogers’ defensive-first approach. The Cowboys are tied for second in the Big 12 standings while the Cyclones are tied for second to last.

Let’s take a look at this week’s matchup:

Scouting Iowa State

2026 Record: 3-4, 1-3 Big 12

Best player: Former walk-on running back Aiden Flora has become the engine behind ISU’s offense. Flora is averaging 7.0 yards per carry and has exceeded 200 total scrimmage yards in two games this season. In ISU’s lone Big 12 win this season against West Virginia, Flora rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two.

The case for Iowa State: The identity Rogers is bringing to Ames is toughness and physicality. If the Cyclones can slow down the game and rely on Flora’s running game, it could be a one-score game in the fourth quarter. For any team, playing in Jack Trice Stadium is a chore. The Cowboys will have to play a perhaps rainy Halloween night game in a stadium they have had their share of scares.

The case for OSU: The Cowboys will be able to score at a rate Iowa State can’t keep up with. Last week vs Arizona, ISU benched quarterback Jaylen Raynor at halftime in favor of sophomore Connor Moberly. Neither quarterback had much success as ISU managed three points. ISU’s offense ranks No. 14 in the Big 12 (25.9 points per game) and has been held to 17 or fewer points four times this season.
