Former Ohio State women's player starred in WNBA All-Star game

If you don’t follow the WNBA very closely, you may not know that former Ohio State women’s basketball and current Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is having one whale of a season. You might also not know that she is the leading scorer on the Fever, and not former Iowa sharpshooter Caitlyn Clark. Mitchell is, in fact, currently the second-leading scorer in all of the WNBA behind A’Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.

This past weekend, Mitchell took part as one of the starting five in the WNBA All-Star Game and again showed off her scoring prowess by leading all scorers with 28 points. She shot 11-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, also chipping in five steals, three of which were against her teammate Clark, who was matched against her on the opposite team.

Unfortunately for Mitchell and her Team Coop lost to Team Spoon 129-122, but it wasn’t because of the effort Mitchell turned in on just 22 minutes of play. Her time at Ohio State saw Mitchell become a first team All-American and is still the all-time leading scorer as a Buckeye. She ended becoming the second pick in the 2018 WNBA draft.

Mitchell has been one of the stars in the WNBA and I’m not sure she gets enough credit for the player that she is. She was a star in high school in Cincinnati, a star at Ohio State, and is still doing some unbelievable things at the game’s highest level.
