Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Bradley Barcola from PSG this summer.
They need to replace Mohamed Salah, who has decided to leave the club at the end of last season. It remains to be seen whether they can sign Barcola in the coming weeks.
The French International is likely to cost a substantial amount of money. Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that they should have moved for the West Ham United attacker Jarrod Bowen.
Owen told GOAL, “He’s obviously very good, but he’s going to come at a massive price. I don’t think they have to win it. There’s other great players out there.
“You know what I would have done a couple of months ago if I was Liverpool – that’s try to do everything to sign Jarrod Bowen. I can’t believe he’s going to be desperate to play in the Championship. Looks like he is now, whatever he’s done. To replace Salah, I thought that could have been a good move.
“Barcola is obviously top class, but he’s going to come at a price. There’s obviously other great players around the world. It’s one that you can definitely see because they absolutely need some talented wide players.
“It’s not always that these players come available. If he is available and it’s an easy one to do, barring the big price tag, then yes, I can see that one being pushed by Liverpool.”
West Ham have been relegated to the Championship, and Bowen could have been tempted to join a big club this summer. Liverpool need more quality on the flanks and above, and he has been a consistent performer in the Premier League. He has scored goals consistently, and he can create opportunities from the wide areas as well. The opportunity to play for Liverpool would have been exciting for him.
However, the Premier League side has shown no interest in signing the 29-year-old, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right additions before the window closes. Adding more quality depth in the wide areas will be a priority for them. They need someone who can take on defenders and create opportunities with pace and flair.
Barcola is ready to leave PSG in search of regular playing time, but their asking price could complicate any potential move. The French outfit will have to be reasonable with their demands in order for the move to go through.
