Five-star cornerback and Texas commit John Meredith III‘s appeal was denied the UIL State Executive committee in a 3-2 vote on Thursday, July 9, making him ineligible to play varsity athletics at North Crowley High School.
Despite the ruling, Meredith will still be eligible for varsity athletics at his former school, Euless Trinity.
Meredith transferred to North Crowley from Euless Trinity in January and was later ruled ineligible for his senior season for transferring due to athletic purposes.
That decision was made on a 5-2 vote at an 11-6 district executive committee meeting, but Meredith and North Crowley were given the opportunity to appeal the committee’s decision to the UIL State Executive committee, which resulted in Thursday’s denial.
Meredith is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the USA TODAY High School Sports composite football rankings and the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder was a two-way player at Euless and earned MaxPreps All-American honors as a junior, while also being named to the Under Armour All-American game.
He recently committed to play for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns on June, 19.
Meredith was one of two notable Texas high school football players to have his appeal denied on Thursday. Four-star quarterback and Georgia commit Colton Nussmeier was also officially ruled ineligible for his senior season at Denton Ryan after a 4-1 vote by the UIL State Executive committee.
