There was only one piece of injury news that everyone was waiting for in today’s Xabi Alonso press conference: what’s up with Moises Caicedo? He missed the start of the season, barring one short cameo which cost him another month of recovery, and the team have suffered without him.
We were all hopeful the three week international break would give him the time he needed to recover – it was no surprise that it was the first thing Alonso was asked about. And the news was good:
“Yes, he’s ready to go,” Alonso said.
“Finally, you have been asking this question and we have used the time with Moises to [get him] back fit. He’s been training good and he’s okay to go.”
Hallelujah.
Alonso’s poker face continues to impress

Xabi Alonso
So the absence of Caicedo in training pictures this week was all a ruse – it turns out that Alonso is more than just a little devious when it comes to these things. As well as giving nothing away in pressers, he also seems to have encouraged the club to keep this under wraps as long as possible.
While it can be frustrating for fans or journalists, we’ve got to respect his commitment to it…
In other news…
Pep Chavarria has admitted there’s a big step up to the Premier League – but he’s enjoying every minute of his Chelsea move so far.
