FG Approves Recruitment of 3,252 PTA Teachers into Federal Public Service

The Federal Government has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the federal public service, ending years of uncertainty for educators who have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Technical Colleges without permanent appointments.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the approval in Abuja on Thursday, describing the decision as a major step toward addressing the persistent shortage of teachers in federal secondary schools while recognising the dedication of long-serving PTA teachers.

According to the minister, the affected teachers were verified through a nationwide screening exercise conducted by an inter-ministerial committee before being recommended for regularisation. They will be absorbed into the federal workforce under the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers, and Technical Instructors.

Alausa said President Bola Tinubu approved the recruitment to strengthen teaching and learning in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges, noting that many of the beneficiaries had served for nearly 25 years without enjoying the benefits of permanent government employment.

He assured the teachers that the regularisation process would be transparent, fair, and in line with established public service rules and due process.

The minister stressed that improving the quality of education begins with investing in teachers, adding that the administration remains committed to ensuring every child in federal colleges is taught by qualified, motivated, and professionally supported educators.

The recruitment is the latest in a series of reforms by the Federal Government aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education sector through improved teacher welfare, capacity building, and efforts to bridge staffing gaps in public schools. It also follows previous initiatives to enhance technical and vocational education and expand digital learning infrastructure across the country.
