FCT: Wike moves to impound, auction vehicles operating outside of designated parks in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has announced that measures are being implemented to seize and auction vehicles operating outside designated parks in order to ensure adherence to transport regulations.

Wike spoke to journalists following his inspection of major road projects in important satellite towns, including the long-awaited Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road.

He addressed concerns regarding commercial taxi drivers who persist in picking up passengers along FCT roads instead of using designated terminals such as the Mabushi Bus Terminal.

He emphasised that the administration will persist in its enforcement actions, which include the impounding and potential auctioning of vehicles found operating outside designated parks, to ensure compliance.

Additionally, regarding the unauthorised use of green spaces for vehicle sales within the FCT, the Minister clarified that building approvals are generally granted by the appropriate departments and agencies, rather than directly by his office.

He confirmed the establishment of a task force aimed at removing such encroachments and stated that any vehicle located in designated green areas would be impounded, with the possibility of being auctioned for non-compliance.

Wike said, “We must restore order. If you do not vacate the green areas or use the accredited terminals, we will impound and auction those vehicles. Everyone must obey the rules.”
