Fann homers, AA Lakers win opener in Libby

LIBBY — Hunter Fann homered and doubled, Teagen Dixon had three steals and the Kalispell AA Lakers opened their season with a rain-shortened, 9-5 win at Libby on Wednesday.

Tait Orme and Fann both had two hits and Fann scored three times for the Lakers, who batted all 16 players and put six pitchers on the bump in seven-plus innings.

Those pitchers struck out 11 Loggers but also walked 11; Bransen Holzer had two of Libby’s three hits, including an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Max Schara’s two-run single put the Lakers up 3-0 in the second inning and the visitors pushed their lead to 4-1 with Fann’s solo home run in the fourth and 5-1 with Miles Arrowsmith’s RBI single in the fifth.

Trailing 6-2, the Loggers put up three runs in the sixth, using five walks and a passed ball. Noah Gillespie and Kale Hall drew the bases-loaded free passes, and the deficit was just 6-5.

The Lakers found some breathing room with George Schwan’s RBI single in the seventh and a two-out Logger error in the eighth that brought in two runs. With two out in Libby’s half of the eighth rain halted the game.
