Victor Wembanyama’s NBA Finals debut already had enough pressure before a fan ran onto the court trying to turn it into a selfie moment.
The strange interruption came in the fourth quarter of Game 1 between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center.
That timing made it worse. The Knicks were protecting a 92-86 lead with just over six minutes left, and the game was still very much alive.

According to USA Today, a young man ran onto the court, pulled out his phone and appeared to try to take a selfie near Wembanyama.
Security reached him quickly and escorted him off the floor, but the image was bizarre. Wembanyama laughed while standing near Mitchell Robinson, who looked more confused than amused.
The fan has not been publicly identified. There was also no confirmed final punishment at the time of reporting, though courtside intrusions usually bring serious arena consequences.
Play resumed with a jump ball after the stoppage. That mattered because San Antonio still had a chance to swing the final stretch before New York closed the door.
Knicks win after fan interruption fails to change momentum
The interruption did not rescue the Spurs. New York finished stronger and won 105-95, taking a 1-0 lead in their first Finals appearance since 1999.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 30 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points and 12 rebounds. Their late composure mattered after San Antonio had built a second-half lead.
Wembanyama still produced 26 points and 12 rebounds in his Finals debut, but he shot 6-for-21 and struggled to control the fourth quarter.
The Spurs had the lead, the home floor and the best defensive weapon in the series. They still let the Knicks close the game with more poise.
