F1 rivals battle it out in charity football games

Formula 1 adversaries Mercedes and Aston Martin have taken their rivalry from the racetrack to the football pitch.

The charity matches were held at St James Park in Brackley, Northamptonshire, on Thursday night.

Mercedes won the men’s match 3-1, while Silverstone-based Aston Martin’s women’s team won their game 2-1.

“It’s a fantastic way to bring both teams together off-track, said Imogen Tait, the charity and community outreach lead at Mercedes F1.

“Unsurprisingly, a lot of us are very, very competitive, so what better way than to bring our team members together?”

Tait hoped the fixtures, first held in 2022, would continue “for many years to come”.

They were in aid of hospice charity Helen & Douglas House and Movember.

“It is so important that we use our resources to give back and to do good,” added Tait, speaking to The Motorsport Show presenter Robert Constantin.

“This is just one way that we can give back to this area.”
