The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon, ACFAC, has initiated a formal inquiry into FECAFOOT and its president, Eto’o, following published reports of alleged financial irregularities.

Eto’o is accused of unlawfully obtaining a payment from the Russian Football Union relating to a friendly international match between the two nations in October 2023.

According to ACFAC’s statement, the Russian Football Union allegedly breached its contractual agreement with the Cameroonian federation, FECAFOOT, by depositing approximately €567,000 ($655,000) into a bank account not registered to the organisation.

The association has further declared its intention to pursue legal action against former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Eto’o through the Cameroonian judicial system, while also filing a legal complaint in Russia against the Russian Football Union.

Last month, Eto’o publicly endorsed embattled FIFA President Gianni Infantino, asserting that he “has committed no wrongdoing” despite growing calls for his resignation over a contentious World Cup commercialisation initiative.
