Los Angeles Dodgers starter Eric Lauer spoke about the trade rumors surrounding him after another strong start in a win Wednesday.
Lauer turned in six scoreless innings for the Dodgers in Wednesday’s 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners, notching his fifth quality start in eight tries for the team. Through his nine total games as a Dodger, Lauer has a 2.96 ERA through 51.2 innings pitched, and is yet to lose a game.
Due to his strong showings since donning a Dodgers uniform, Lauer’s name has flown around the league as an interesting trade piece, especially with his impending free agency following the campaign. While the southpaw admits he’s heard the noise, he said he wanted to stay put with the Dodgers.
“It’s something that I was aware of coming over here — that it might be like a rental thing. See a need, fill a need kind of thing,” Lauer said. “But I mean, I love it here. I think I’m thriving here, as far as I can tell, and I would love to be part of this team.”
When asked if he had been keeping up with the team’s plans for him, Lauer gave a blunt answer: he doesn’t want to know.
“I don’t think that that’s really something that a player would necessarily even want to know, because when you start playing GM in your head then you start getting away from what your job is,” Lauer said. “I try to make sure I come in, do the best I can to prepare every day, do the best I can when I get out on that mound, and whatever happens.”

Lauer, despite his desire to remain in Los Angeles, is a prime candidate for trade this deadline, especially with the Dodgers’ bullpen working back to full strength. When the Dodgers’ starters currently on the injured list return, there may not be much room for the left-hander.
Blake Snell is currently working to come back on his rehab assignment, and right-hander Tyler Glasnow is also taking steps towards a comeback—throwing a bullpen at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. Shohei Ohtani is also abstaining from pitching with his knee injury, but expects to return before the end of the season.
With so many starters who are likely to take over Lauer’s spot in the rotation, the Dodgers could very well trade him to reinforce their minor league pitching—a point of interest this deadline.
