Eric Garcia has revealed that his next major ambition is to win the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona after helping Spain lift the FIFA World Cup.
The 25-year-old defender, one of eight Barcelona players in Spain’s victorious squad, is currently enjoying a well-earned break before returning for the new season.
Speaking to COPE (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Garcia reflected on the World Cup triumph, praised teammate Ferran Torres and looked ahead to his objectives with Barcelona.
Praise for Ferran Torres
Garcia admitted he was deeply moved by the reception the squad received during the victory celebrations and reserved special praise for Ferran Torres, whose goal secured Spain’s World Cup title.
Asked about the sports psychologist he shares with the Barcelona forward, Garcia highlighted the mental work both players have put in throughout their careers.

“For better or for worse, and I can include myself in that, both Ferran and I are used to surprises. Our job is to play football, which I think is a privilege,” he said.
“Things, as I’ve always said, can go better, they can go worse, but you always have to be there, with the right attitude. And in the end, it’s no coincidence that he scored the goal that gave us the World Cup.”
Ready when the opportunity came
Garcia also reflected on making his World Cup debut in the tournament’s biggest match, explaining that he had remained prepared throughout the competition despite not featuring earlier.
“I’d been preparing all month in case the opportunity arose, and look, it finally came in the final. And to win it, which was everyone’s goal. We were all there to contribute, whether we played or not,” the Barcelona defender said.
“I’d always told the manager I was ready for whatever came my way,” he added.

The defender also revealed the moment Spain began to believe the trophy was within reach, saying:
“After Enzo’s sending-off and when they took Julian off and brought on another defender.”
Champions League now the main goal
Having added the World Cup to an already impressive list of honours, Garcia made it clear that his focus has now shifted to European success with Barcelona.
“Yes, yes. It’s clear that in the end I can’t complain about the record I have to this day. Every player wants to win, to win titles, and that’s what we’re here for,” he stated.
Garcia also confirmed that he is due to report back for Barcelona duty on 12 August as preparations continue for the new season.
