TMZ asked Eric Dickerson about the Myles Garrett trade to the Los Angeles Rams, and the possibility of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement to make another run with the team. According to Dickerson, he thinks Donald is a great player who may still have some gas left in the tank, but he also feels that Donald has nothing left to prove in his career, and that the Rams can be just fine to compete for a Super Bowl without him.
Said Dickerson:
“I’d love to have Aaron Donald back, but you know I think they can win without him…it will be hard… but you know it’s football we should’ve made it (to the Super Bowl) last year. Would I love to have him? Hell yeah.”
When asked if Dickerson had a special message for Donald, Dickerson expressed wanting to see AD enjoy his retirement.
“Stay retired. Enjoy retirement, man. Aaron did what he did…if he wants to come back and play, play, but man why?…what does he have to prove?…He has nothing to prove.”
The TMZ reporter then shifts the conversation asking if Dickerson has any message for the newly acquired Garrett, and Dickerson said not really as Garrett should know what to do.
“Good luck. You know, he a football player. He knows what to do.”
Dickerson is a Rams and NFL legend as the all-time single season leading rusher with 2,105 yards during the 1984 season. Despite being out of the game for decades, when Dickerson talks many listen, and his take on Donald shouldn’t be too surprising.
Dickerson has likely enjoyed retirement from the NFL and wants to see Donald enjoy it as well. Staying out on a high note.
Though, if Donald did come back, it sounds like Dickerson would love to watch what he and Garrett could do together, but as it stands, Dickerson says Donald has nothing to prove, so enjoy watching the game from afar with Donald knowing he accomplished all he could during his playing days.
Of course, if Donald has any other milestones he’d like to hit with a genuine desire to come back, the Rams would surely listen and the fans, including Dickerson, would welcome it.
