Education District VI of the Lagos State Ministry of Education has inducted 80 newly employed teachers as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s education system and promote professionalism in the teaching service.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, charged the new teachers to approach their responsibilities with dedication, discipline and integrity.
Yusuff stressed the importance of respecting students, preparing lesson notes ahead of classes and maintaining high professional standards in the discharge of their duties.
She also urged the teachers to familiarise themselves with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Act, maintain cordial relationships with parents and live within their means to avoid financial embarrassment.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary warned the new teachers against what she described as the “3 Is” capable of undermining the education system: illegal admissions, illegal collection of money and illicit affairs within the school environment.
She further advised teachers who intend to leave the service to follow due process and formally resign rather than absconding from their duties.
Other directors at the ceremony encouraged the inductees to familiarise themselves with the Public Service Rules and uphold accountability, discipline and professionalism throughout their careers.
The ceremony ended with congratulatory messages to the 80 new teachers as they commenced their careers in the teaching service and took on the responsibility of contributing to the education and future of Lagos State students.
