Goodness gracious, what a week to be a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Entering Week 5 with a pair of losses souring a solid start, the Birds lost Lane Johnson to retirement, Cam Jurgens to a concussion, then a trade to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder, throwing in a seventh in April to complete the deal.
Are the Eagles rebuilding, as Dan Orlovsky suggested, accepting that they can no longer financially field a Super Bowl-caliber roster after too many deals were kicked into the future for an older Howie Roseman to figure out? Or was this simply too good of a deal to pass up for the second-worst-ranked guard in the NFL through four weeks, according to Pro Football Focus, with Joey Porter Jr. garnering a similar return from the Dallas Cowboys a week earlier?

While these questions will be discussed ad nauseam for the next six months and beyond, one thing is for sure: on Friday, the Eagles will fly out to England to face off against a hot LondonJacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They were already the underdogs even before losing two Pro Bowl-caliber linemen and will now be even more so for a game that kicks off before 7 AM on the West Coast.
How Nick Sirianni’s squad attacks this challenge will go a long way in defining if he is the man who can lead this franchise into the future, as Liam Coen’s squad has the potential to inflict punishment in a way that will make fans reminiscent of the Process Sixers of yesteryear.

Willie Lampkin doesn’t make much noise for the Eagles
Even before Jurgens flocked down 1-95 to turn his midnight green gear in for black and purple in Charm City, one of the biggest storylines to watch in Week 5 against the Jaguars was how Willie Lampkin would perform in his first real taste of NFL action.
Standing 5-foot-11(ish), 290 pounds, Lampkin is one of the smallest offensive linemen to play in an NFL game this century but is an absolute technician, especially in the run game, showcasing his unique ability to move bodies in space like a much larger player while pancaking would-be tacklers to free up lanes. So far, Lampkin has only been able to showcase this strength in limited action, pulling a Patrick Richard as a would-be fullback in Week 4 on a doomed goal-line run play, but he’s yet to actually log a snap at guard in a game that mattered, at least until Sunday.
Could Lamkin slide into action and become the second coming of Jason Kelce, an immediate contributor who punches well above his weight class? Sure, fans will be keyed in on No. 61 on every offensive snap the Eagles take, and social media will be flooded with clips of how he performs, good, bad, or somewhere in between.
But realistically, somewhere in between is probably where Lampkin’s debut will fall.
In the NFL, offensive linemen only really get attention from the general public if they do something very good or very bad. While the Jaguars’ defense is a strange one to judge, ranking second in rushing yards and points allowed but 25th in yards and 31st in passing yards allowed, they’ve only recorded nine sacks through four weeks, so the chance of Lampkin getting blown up in pass pro is rather unlikely, as are the chances of the Eagles offense to magically turn things around under such unusual circumstances. Fortunately, after watching Jurgens struggle mightily at left guard, steady is probably an improvement if Lampkin can just reach that level of production.

Trevor Lawrence sets a new season-high in passing yards
Heading into the 2026 NFL season, Trevor Lawrence was widely considered a strong MVP candidate.
After bouncing back in a major way from a down 2024 season as a fifth-year pro, Lawrence was the headlining act of one of the NFL’s feel-good stories of 2025 and looked primed to get even better after Jacksonville loaded up with even more talent during the offseason.
But through four weeks of action, Lawrence’s stats simply haven’t matched his team’s win-loss record.
Despite playing in an offense featuring smart play calls from Coen and an ascending collection of talent around him, Lawrence has only thrown for over 200 yards twice, with his season high of 245 yards and four touchdowns against the Cleveland Brown in Week 1, serving as the high-water mark of his campaign thus far.
Fortunately, Lawrence has a chance to get that right in a major way in Week 5, as the Eagles’ secondary has routinely broken when it mattered most against quality quarterback play.
Despite returning the vast majority of their defensive starters from 2025 plus a few key additions like Jonathan Greenard and Riq Woolen, the Eagles defense is a bottom-16 unit pretty much across the board, allowing the 15th-most passing yards, the ninth-most rushing yards, the 11th-most yards, and the 16th-most points of any team in the NFL through four weeks.
Now granted, Vic Fangio is still running the show in Philadelphia, and in any given week, he can turn in a masterclass for the Eagles, but after putting in work for the better part of three quarters despite losing Quinyon Mitchell and Greenard to injuries mid-game in Week 4, Sean McVay buckled the unit drive after drive, scoring 14 unanswered points on the way to a 24-20 victory.
While Coen isn’t McVay, he is a disciple of his scheme and has found ways to get the offense going in Jacksonville despite a major discrepancy between his passing and rushing success. Considering everything going against Philadelphia at the moment, don’t be surprised if the Eagles allow 300 passing yards for the second week in a row, which probably signals a good chance of a Jaguars victory in London.

The Eagles take a step forward in defeat
Before the 2026 NFL season began, this was probably a game most fans expected the Eagles to win.
Sure, the Jaguars were coming off of a very good season, and the Eagles’ improvements were more theoretical than realistic, but one team has made it to the Super Bowl three times over the last decade, while the other’s struggles have been so well documented it became a joke on The Good Place.
And yet, with DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley questionable to play in Week 5, three new starters on the offensive line, and morale questionably at best within the Jefferson Health Training Complex, at this point, putting together a complete game would likely be enough to give the Eagles hope when they get back from their cross-Atlantic trip, even if they suffer a loss in London.
Sitting at 3-1, the Jaguars are already the top team in the AFC South with a one-game lead over the Indianapolis Colts. While they may not be as hungry to leave Week 5 with a win as the Eagles are, all things considered, there’s a reason they are favored to secure the victory in London.
