Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts enters the 2026 NFL season facing an unusual concern. Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks has highlighted a really concerning turnover rate in his training camp performance.
Shorr-Parks posted on X that Hurts has thrown 13 interceptions across 16 practices this summer. That compares with 15 interceptions during the previous four training camps combined.

This concern came to light after Hurts threw a costly pick-six during Tuesday night’s practice at Lincoln Financial Field. Cornerback Riq Woolen intercepted his pass intended for DeVonta Smith during a two-minute drill and returned it for a touchdown.
“Hurts and offense are turning it over way too much,” Shorr-Parks wrote. He added that Philadelphia may need to return to its more conservative passing approach if the issue continues into the regular season.
The concern matters because turnovers could force the Eagles to adjust an offense already seeking better balance. Hurts and Philadelphia have built their identity around protecting the football and controlling games through their ground attack.
Shorr-Parks thinks that approach could return if the mistakes continue. He described it as “the style that won them a Super Bowl.”
Eagles cannot afford offensive setback
Training camp practices are crucial because quarterbacks use them to test throws against different coverages. Hurts’ 2025 numbers show why Philadelphia can trust his decision-making despite the current concern. He threw for 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions, finishing with a 98.5 passer rating.
Still, 13 interceptions in 16 practices stand out against Hurts’ previous camp numbers. Philadelphia needs to determine whether the interceptions reflect risky quarterback decisions, defensive success, or problems within the offensive structure.
“I always want to do whatever it takes to win,” Hurts said in late May during the Eagles’ OTA practice, before adding, “I do really want to become an expert at the (quarterback) position, and I want to grow within the position.”
So far, that hasn’t happened, but he is exploring.
Hurts has already shown he can win without producing huge passing numbers. He rushed for 421 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025. Clearly, his effectiveness increases when Philadelphia controls the line of scrimmage and creates favorable situations through its running game.

The bigger question involves how much freedom Hurts receives within the new offensive structure. If turnovers continue, coaches could limit risky throws and lean harder on the running game.
That would protect Hurts but could also restrict an offense that needs more variety. Philadelphia cannot become predictable while trying to correct its turnover problems.
The 2026 season is already too close, and the Eagles need to find a solution soon.
