The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Joe Milton as their new starting quarterback in Week 9 against the New York Giants, replacing Tanner McKee. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had said McKee would be the starter earlier in the week, but he later changed his mind and went with Milton.
Sirianni addressed the media about his QB U-turn, which he claims was a strategic move to try and unsettle the Giants.
“I’m gonna tell you what I want to tell you, guys. I respect the job that you all have to do. But I’m gonna tell you what I want to tell you, guys, because I’m always gonna protect the team, first and foremost. Every second that goes by in a situation like that, that you can hold on to the information as long as you possibly can, is a little less time for the opponent to prepare for the game,” Sirianni said.

Sirianni also gave props to Tanner McKee for his performance after being called upon to replace Jalen Hurts, but he felt the change was for the good of the team.
“I felt Tanner played solid … but is what I felt I needed to do,” Sirianni said, per Jeff McLane.
A sixth round pick by the Eagles in 2023, McKee got three starts after Hurts got shut down for the season due to blood clots. He completed 63% of his passes for 638 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Sirianni will now turn to Joe Milton, who will be making his first career start. Milton brings more of the dynamism and mobility that Hurts has, which may have played a part in why he was chosen over McKee.
