Duke's Walker Eget extremely overlooked in ESPN's Power 4 QB rankings

As Duke‘s new starting quarterback, Walker Eget has led the Blue Devils to a 4-0 record and a No. 21 ranking in the US LBM Coaches Poll, throwing for 721 yards and six touchdowns while throwing one interception.

That’s simply not enough for ESPN’s college football pundits.

In their ranking of all 68 Power 4 quarterbacks after four weeks of the 2026 season, Eget ranks extremely low at No. 58. Their reasoning?

With a dominant defense and running back Nate Sheppard putting up huge numbers, Eget’s main job has been “Don’t screw up.” With only one interception and one sack, he’s fulfilling that, and Duke is unbeaten because of it. But his upside is questionable, to say the least. Maybe it means something that his best game was in Duke’s biggest win (at Illinois), or maybe it just means that Illinois’ defense stinks?

Sure, Eget did struggle in his debut against Tulane, completing 13-of-26 passes for 131 yards, but against the Illini, he continuously came through with big throws, including three touchdown passes in the upset win.

If you dare look at some of the quarterbacks ahead of him, there’s Alberto Mendoza (53rd), who has Georgia Tech 1-3; Oklahoma’s John Mateer (48th), who is on the cusp of losing his starting job after a disastrous start; and, somehow, Stanford’s Davis Warren, who Eget massively outplayed in the Blue Devils’ 35-7 victory over the Cardinal, in which Warren threw for just 151 yards and one touchdown.

A preseason and season full of disrespect continues for the Blue Devils.
