A lot of schools are after Beckham Black. Widely regarded as (at least) one of the top two point guards in the class of ’27, Black is certainly considering schools like Texas, Arkansas, and Duke.
His brother, Anthony, played for the Razorbacks, and is now with the Orlando Magic, where he is teammates with former Blue Devils Wendell Carter and Paolo Banchero. And Banchero is where this story takes a turn.
According to BestofArkansasSports.com, Banchero and the younger Black have become close, and Banchero is pushing Duke. Will it matter in the end?
Certainly can’t hurt.
And for what it’s worth, Anthony Black played for Eric Musselman, who left Arkansas for USC, thus opening the job for John Calipari.
Calipari, of course, has recruited brilliantly for a very long time, and is a formidable rival. However, this is worth noting: he has not gotten a team past the Sweet Sixteen since 2019, and hasn’t made it back to the Final Four since 2015.
Still, he’s a factor, and Duke can’t overlook him, or Texas, or whoever else may pop up. But it’s nice to have a Banchero on your side, too.
