For PSG, he represents another elite young talent capable of leading the next generation. For Liverpool, he could eventually help address the long-term challenge of replacing Mohamed Salah’s attacking output.
For Real Madrid, however, the attraction appears slightly different. José Mourinho reportedly wants more pace, dynamism and one-versus-one ability in his attack. Diomande offers exactly that.
The more interesting question is where exactly he would fit.
Real Madrid’s Pursuit Raises Obvious Questions
Madrid are not chasing a squad player. Clubs do not submit bids approaching or exceeding €100 million for rotational depth. Reports suggest Madrid have already seen an initial offer rejected and remain determined to continue negotiations.
Whenever an attacking signing of this magnitude is pursued, someone else’s future naturally comes under scrutiny.
At first glance, Madrid’s forward line appears crowded already. And then there is Vinícius and the problems with his contract approaching its expiration date. The Brazilian should theoretically be untouchable, but football’s biggest transfer stories rarely develop in perfectly logical ways.

Vinícius has entered the final year of his contract, and that detail transforms the discussion completely. If there were four or five years remaining on his deal, Madrid could comfortably ignore outside speculation. But with only one year left, the situation becomes much more complicated.

Madrid’s interest in Diomande feels less like a commercial signing and more like a tactical one. Reports suggest Mourinho specifically wants additional speed and athleticism in wide areas.
There are some things that can be ascertained from that.
Mourinho’s teams have always depended heavily on direct attacking transitions, aggressive wing play and players capable of winning individual duels. Diomande checks every one of those boxes. The question is whether Mourinho sees Diomande as a complementary piece alongside Vinícius and Mbappé or as part of a future attack that looks different altogether.
For now, nobody outside Madrid knows the answer.
PSG and Liverpool Should Not Be Counted Out
One mistake would be assuming Madrid have already won this race.
The reporting remains clear: PSG continue to be heavily involved, while Liverpool retain strong interest.
Diomande has previously been linked most strongly with Paris, and some reports suggest PSG were considered favourites for significant periods of the saga. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain perhaps the most obvious sporting fit.
With Mohamed Salah now gone, Diomande would almost certainly become a central piece of the project at Anfield. At Madrid, competition for minutes is unavoidable.
A Defining Summer for Real Madrid
The most fascinating aspect of this story is that it is no longer just about a 19-year-old winger. It is about Real Madrid’s vision for the next five years.
If Diomande arrives and Vinícius signs a new contract, Madrid may possess the most frightening collection of attacking talent in world football.
If Diomande arrives and Vinícius does not extend, an entirely different narrative emerges.
And if Arsenal sense genuine hesitation in the negotiations between Madrid and Vinícius, expect their interest to intensify quickly.
What began as a transfer race for Yan Diomande has evolved into something much larger. It has become a referendum on the future of Vinícius Júnior, the direction of Mourinho’s new Real Madrid project, and the shape of European football’s elite over the next decade.
