Denver’s a finalist to host March Madness Final Four after new stadium opens

· · 2 min read

The dream of the Denver Broncos‘ new stadium is starting to come together and be realized after a new report named Denver as a potential host city for the Final Four between 2032-36, according to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein on Tuesday.

The timeline to host the Final Four is well within the projected timeline the Broncos have to build their new dream stadium at their preferred site at Burnham Yard, with aims for it to be completed in time for the 2031 NFL season. However, in recent months, both the Broncos and the Burnham Yard community at large acknowledged that there are several issues still left to be resolved before the stadium and its resulting business district can be constructed.

The new stadium is projected to have a state-of-the-art retractable roof as a key feature, something that Broncos owner Greg Penner labeled as an important priority. The retractable roof could be instrumental in helping to host major events like a Final Four, a potential future World Cup site, the NFL draft, and even a Super Bowl.

The new stadium and its surrounding area has continued to generate quite the buzz, with Denver mayor Mike Johnston recently stating that the city will put in a bid to host the 2033 Super Bowl.

Big for Denver! This is why it was imperative that the new Broncos stadium has a roof. That new building should be open for the 2031 NFL season.

Other cities in contention to host the Final Four include former hosts of the major men’s tournament before, such as Houston, Indianapolis and New Orleans. The other cities, Kansas City, Nashville and Las Vegas, are all currently or will be home to new state-of-the-art stadiums.

Denver’s future in major sporting events and attractions is more of a “when” than an “if.” Right now, the biggest question marks of the project are when the Broncos will release not only the renderings of their new stadium, but also the final date of potentially breaking ground on the structure and business district, as well as the resolution of city permitting and community engagement.
