DeMarcus Cousins suggests a 'straight-up trade' for Timberwolves after Anthony Edwards' injury
Anthony Edwards is expected to be out for around two months, and that is a huge blow for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Ant-Man had a phenomenal start to the new NBA season, and he formed an instant connection with LaMelo Ball. The duo looked incredible together.
However, Edwards has undergone surgery and will be on the sidelines for a while. The Timberwolves need a solution in his absence, and DeMarcus Cousins has shared an interesting suggestion.
DeMarcus Cousins suggests Rudy Gobert for Anthony Davis trade
Anthony Davis only joined the Washington Wizards in February this year and made his regular-season debut in the opening game of this season.
The former Mavs star has missed several games due to injury in recent years, but on his day, he is up there with the best forwards in the NBA.
That is perhaps why Cousins feels the Timberwolves and Wizards should explore a ‘straight-up trade’ that would see Davis and Rudy Gobert switch sides.
The former NBA star thinks this move would benefit both parties, as Minnesota would get a replacement for Edwards while the Wizards will have a defensive anchor that they need.
Cousins said on Gil’s Arena: “If the Wizards are feeling like it’s not a good move, with everything that’s going on in Minnesota right now with Ant and how much time he’s gonna miss, I say they do a straight-up trade for Rudy and AD.
“Man, Rudy’s looking crazy. He’s shooting like 23 per cent at the rim or something like that. If they don’t want to extend AD, they might as well (get him).
“I think it would be better for Minnesota all-around. They kind of get the other go-to guy, while Anthony is out, to go along with LaMelo. I think it works for both teams. The Wizards get their defensive anchor. I just thought about it.”
Edwards’ absence certainly weakens the Timberwolves, and someone like Davis could guarantee them 20 points a night if they can get him and keep him fit.
However, whether the Wizards will accept Gobert after his underwhelming recent performances is anyone’s guess.
