The Los Angeles Dodgers are 2-10 in their last 10 games despite a very aggressive trade deadline approach.
The offense has been inconsistent, and the bullpen has been a mess. They won on Monday night, but blew a two-run lead to the lowly Kansas City Royals. They are tied with the Atlanta Braves for the second-best record in the National League, and would be playing in a wild card series if the regular season ended today.
“We’re a wild-card team right now,” manager Dave Roberts said on Monday, per The Athletic’s Katie Woo. “We have to get going and play with urgency. We have to make sure we don’t get ahead of the playoff situation, and talk about winning now, winning today, winning tomorrow.”
The Dodgers are three games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for the top seed in the NL and the best record in baseball. They will take on the Brewers in a four-game series starting on Thursday. That series could decide which team gets the No. 1 seed and will dictate who holds the tiebreaker if they finish with the same record. The Dodgers have a 2-1 lead over the Brewers in the season series right now. The Dodgers’ roster is loaded, and it would be easy to assume things will get back on track.
Dave Roberts Calls For Dodgers To
“That part of the, ‘We’re gonna be OK and we’re good,’ that’s not good enough,” Roberts said. “Clearly it’s not, given how we’ve played over the last month. We put ourselves in this position. A lot of talent. But I think across the board, we need to play with more urgency. And our guys know that.”
The Dodgers have been dealing with some injuries and are getting some guys back. Blake Snell will return on Tuesday, and Tyler Glasnow is on a rehab assignment. Shohei Ohtani has begun a throwing progression in hopes of returning to the mound soon. Getting those three arms in the rotation with Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki and Justin Wrobleski will be huge for the Dodgers.
