Quarterback Dak Prescott, in particular, did not play up to his usual high standards. He completed just 22 of his 34 passes, and while he did throw two touchdowns, that wasn’t enough to keep in step with a Giants team that was playing with a chip on its shoulder.

Moreover, Prescott compounded matters for the Cowboys by throwing a particularly costly interception in the second period. The Giants capitalized on this pick and scored a touchdown that put them up 14-7 before the halftime interval. New York then scored first after the intermission and padded their lead to 21-7 — giving them the cushion they need to hold on for the victory.

At the end of the day, the Cowboys simply did not make the most of their scoring opportunities. For Prescott, while he did have his shortcomings on the night, he believes that the Giants did a good job of slowing down the running game. In fact, as per Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News, Prescott called this the “biggest thing” the Giants did to neutralize their offense.

The Cowboys just lost the possession game against the Giants, and this proved to be their undoing. Even then, when they had the ball, they were less than impressive. They had a total of 67 rushing yards on the night, with Javonte Williams recording just 41 yards on 12 carries for an average of around 3.4 yards per carry.

With the running game on lock, the Cowboys QB faced a ton of pressure from the defense, and he could not execute enough to overcome the Giants’ aggressive defensive scheme. Simply put, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has his work cut out for him as Dallas looks to get it together before their Week 2 contest against the Washington Commanders, another team that started the season off with a loss.
