All eyes ere on college football’s massive Week 2 matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes, which resulted in an amazing 24-23 comeback win for Steve Sarkisian and his team. No, seriously. Pretty much everyone was watching that game, as the broadcast on ESPN snapped a 10-year long viewership record.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter claimed on Tuesday that the matchup generated 14 million views. At one point, the game peaked at 16.4 million viewers tuning into the contest. ABC’s broadcast of the game is officially the most-watched regular season game on an ESPN Network since 2016.

That 2016 matchup was a rivalry game between the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State. The Longhorns-Buckeyes game is now regarded as the most-watched Week 2 matchup on any network this year. Additionally, it was the most-viewed regular season primetime game since 2012, which was a contest between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and USC Trojans.

Ryan Day and his Buckeyes led the way through the first three quarters of the game. They entered the fourth quarter with a 23-3 lead before Arch Manning’s clutch gene was activated, leading the Longhorns to 21 unanswered points. Manning finished the contest with 195 yards and a touchdown while completing 62.1% of his pass attempts.

But Texas’ defense deserves a ton of credit. While the first half didn’t go their way, the group held it together and shut down Ohio State’s top stars in the most important part of the matchup. Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith went off for eight receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown. However, most of those numbers were recorded well before the fourth quarter collapse.

Texas walked out of Week 2 as the new No. 1-ranked program in the nation. Meanwhile, Ohio State fell to No. 6. The Longhorns will move on to Week 3 with a home game against the UTSA Roadrunners. As for the Buckeyes, they aim to right the ship with a Week 3 matchup against Kent State.
