What a fall from grace it has been for the Los Angeles Clippers after they peaked towards the start of the 2020s. Their blockbuster trade for Paul George, which sealed the signing of Kawhi Leonard back in July 2019, has only looked worse with each passing season.

And now that the Leonard era has come and gone with the Clippers having nothing to show for it in terms of silverware, it’s difficult to imagine how much worse things can get for LA. But somehow, they keep on finding ways to dig a deeper hole for the franchise to bury itself in.

The Clippers have been found guilty of cap circumvention, with the NBA finding evidence that they had funneled money under the table to Leonard through an endorsement deal. And former Clippers guard Patrick Beverley is only piling on to the franchise’s misery, as he called out owner Steve Ballmer for not following through on a promise he purportedly made back then to the former NBA All-Defensive First Team guard.

“Steve Ballmer looked me in my face, shook my hand, [and said], ‘We’re gonna get you 94 courts too all around LA.’ And (he) actually started to build them before COVID hit. I got four courts with Mr. 94-feet logo on ’em right before COVID hit and everything. I’m still looking for compensation from that. I’m serious,” Beverley said on the latest episode of The Pat Bev show.

Perhaps Beverley should have had that promise in writing so he can hold the Clippers franchise accountable to that. Even then, that would be another under-the-table agreement that could have the Clippers penalized even further, and for what?

Beverley was part of the Clippers franchise from 2017 to 2021. LA made the playoffs three out of the four seasons Beverley was there, and he played a huge role in establishing the team’s winning culture.

Now 38 years of age, Beverley recently signed a contract to play for French basketball team Boulazac Basket Dordogne.
