A week after a sea of red stormed the field after a 37-24 upset of No. 8 Texas Tech, the Cincinnati Bearcats have a chance to take down another formidable foe in No. 6 Utah.
The Utes are 7-0 for the first time since 2010 and have the longest active win streak in FBS, having won 13 straight dating back to Oct. 18 of last year when they lost at BYU. That “Holy War” awaits them Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. Mountain Time in Salt Lake City after Halloween festivities with the Bearcats at Nippert.
UC is 4-0 at Nippert Stadium and 5-0 in Cincinnati, counting the Victory Bell triumph over Miami University at TQL Stadium.
The game will feature the nation’s No. 8 rushing offense with UC at 234.6 yards per game squaring off with the nation’s No. 8 rushing defense, allowing just 88.3 yards per contest. Last weekend, Texas Tech came in allowing just 82 rushing yards per game with no running touchdowns. The Bearcats responded with 255 yards on the ground, including Cole Tabb’s 58-yard scamper to ice the game late.
Utah is No. 12 in rushing at 221 yards per game, with Wayshawn Parker averaging 92 yards per game and quarterback Devon Dampier scrambling for 49.7 yards. Backup quarterback Byrd Ficklin can join the backfield at any time and averages 6.7 yards per carry.
A big key would be starting early vs. the Utes as they have outscored their opponents 75-3 in the opening quarter.
