Chris Hemsworth’s long-awaited Netflix action sequel just got a massive update.
Extraction 3 has officially hit a major filming milestone as the high-octane franchise prepares for its riveting return. The third installment in the action franchise will see Hemsworth return as Tyler Rake, a former Australian SASR Operator who has since become an independent mercenary specializing in black ops. The sequel sees director Sam Hargrave returning to the franchise, alongside Joe Russo as producer and co-writer with David Weil. Extraction 3 began filming in July 2026.
Now, Hemsworth has taken to Instagram, confirming that Extraction 3 has wrapped filming, posting images from Thailand where production was taking place. His post highlights his time in Thailand, while emphasizing the filming and training he did while in the country. It also adds to the reported locations the third film will involve, with initial reports stating the movie would be filming in Australia and Europe. While he didn’t offer an update about its plot or its release, his post does confirm that filming on the sequel is officially over.

In addition to Hemsworth’s leading role in the sequel, Golshifteh Farahani will be coming back as Nik Khan, Tyler’s mercenary partner who was also a core part of the first two movies. Idris Elba will also be reprising his role as Alcott from Extraction 2, while Don Lee will play newcomer Tygo, a mercenary with a history as a child soldier. Other confirmed cast members include Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry, Siena Agudong, and Pierce Brosnan. The action thriller movie is produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, alongside Wild State and T.G.I.M Films.
The movie is just one of multiple action-packed leading roles for Hemsworth set to grace the screen in the relatively near future. In December of this year, he’ll be coming back as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, marking his 11th movie appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s also starring in another action thriller movie, Subversion, and a crime thriller, Kockroach, both of which are currently in post-production. With Extraction 3 now wrapping filming, there’s no word yet on what his next big project is going to be.

The sequel will have a tough act to follow, given the many positive reviews for Extraction 2 when it was released. However, the team behind Extraction 3 is the same as the first two films, which means the movie will likely succeed in being another pulse-pounding thriller. It’s also laying the groundwork for a larger movie universe: Lee’s Tygo will also star in Tygo, a South Korean spinoff directed by Lee Sang-yong and written by Cha Woo-jin. The movie, currently in post-production, doesn’t yet have a release date.
Since Extraction 3 has officially finished filming, it may not be long until Netflix announces a release window for the forthcoming action thriller. It’s unclear if the sequel or Tygo will be released first, but either way, it appears the franchise has some long-term plans for a bigger cinematic universe. The sequel’s completion means it’s only a matter of time before its release plans are officially confirmed.
