I’ll just keep posting these numbers because they sound ace-like: Since his return from his knee injury, in nine starts Matthew Boyd has posted a 2.43 ERA and 1.186 WHIP and the Cubs have won eight of those nine games.
One of the games was against the Cardinals July 29 in St. Louis. Boyd threw seven shutout innings and allowed four hits and two walks. Something like that again today would work.
The last time the Cubs faced Michael McGreevy was July 28 in St. Louis. He did not last two innings, and the Cubs scored seven runs off him, without the benefit of a home run.
I’d take another one like that. In two starts since then McGreevy has a 4.50 ERA and allowed two home runs in 10 innings.
