According to AS, Chelsea is interested in signing Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras.
The Premier League club has reportedly made an initial inquiry to learn the possible cost of a transfer and the conditions around a deal for the 22-year-old.
Carreras is known well by Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who worked with him at Real Madrid. The Spanish full-back joined Madrid from Benfica last summer, but his long-term place in the squad is not fully guaranteed.
Real Madrid has several options on the left side of defense, and a sale could become possible if the club decides to recover part of the €50 million it spent to sign Carreras.
Chelsea has already sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, and Alonso could now look to bring in another left-back before the new season. Carreras also has experience in English soccer, having previously been on Manchester United’s books and spent time on loan at Preston North End.
At this time, Chelsea’s interest appears to be at an early stage, but Carreras could become one of the names to watch if the club decides to strengthen at left-back.
