Charles Barkley, a former NBA player, believes the San Antonio Spurs have a promising future. The Spurs already have Victor Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 superstar who is at the center of the team’s foundation. They also have De’Aaron Fox, a promising backcourt star veteran. In the franchise’s recent postseason run, however, two youngsters took the spotlight.
Along with Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper demonstrated that they can contribute to the Spurs’ promising future. During San Antonio’s playoff run, Castle averaged 18.2 points, the second-most points on the team. Harper, meanwhile, averaged 14.1 points per game, the most from a player off the bench.

Charles Barkley issued a stern warning to other NBA backcourt players regarding their postseason performance during his recent appearance on “The Bill Simmons Show”. Barkley also compared the Spurs’ young guards to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Those two guards, I don’t want to see them for the next 10 years if I’m a guard in the NBA,” Barkley said. “Harper and Castle, if I’m a guard in the NBA, I do not want to see them boys for the next 10 years. They’re gonna be the new Steph and Klay.”

Castle had a strong start to his career. He won Rookie of the Year in 2025 and followed it up with an even stronger sophomore campaign. Harper also showed flashes of on-court brilliance in his first season. He finished fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting and was named to the All-Rookie First Team.
Castle and Harper form a Big 3 with Wembanyama, something that Barkley believes makes the Spurs a tough team in the future.
During his time on “The Bill Simmons Show,” Charles Barkley revealed that he will move on from being an analyst for ESPN’s “Inside the NBA.” Barkley has joked about retiring from the show in the past. However, it will be real after the 2026-27 season.
Along with his longtime co-host Ernie Johnson, he told Bill Simmons that he would be retiring from broadcasting.
“Me and Ernie are a package deal,” Barkley said. “Ernie said to me, ‘Chuck, would you please stay for two more years?’ I said, ‘I love you, man. You’re the best. I’ll stay for two more years.’ So right now, unless Ernie changes his mind, next year is my last year, 100 percent. … If he says he’s done, I’m gone.”

Barkley joined the show in 2000, shortly after retiring from the NBA. He immediately became a fan favorite and even had a hilarious beef with the San Antonio Spurs fans.
