There is no secret that the Celtics are shopping Jaylen Brown this offseason, and a lot of it could be to try to add a big man to their frontcourt.
Boston already tried to trade Brown for Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, but instead, he was sent to the Heat. Could the Celtics try calling another big man from the Eastern Conference?
The staff at The Ringer proposed trade ideas involving Brown, and Isaac Levy-Rubinett suggested that the Celtics send him to the Cavaliers in exchange for Evan Mobley. The complete trade would involve Boston sending Brown and Jordan Walsh to Cleveland, receiving Mobley and Max Strus in return.
“The most fascinating version of this trade would be Brown for Mobley straight up, but we’re forced to include Walsh and Strus for salary-matching purposes,” Levy-Rubinett wrote on Monday. “The Celtics would add two players who fit like a glove next to (Jayson) Tatum, while the Cavs would be able to roll out a starting lineup of (Donovan) Mitchell, (James) Harden, Brown, Jaylon Tyson, and Jarrett Allen. I’m not sure which team would win that seven-game series, but I wouldn’t mind finding out.”
The trade would be good for Boston, as Mobley is one of the best big men in the NBA and can play both power forward and center. However, Cleveland already has a backcourt featuring Harden and Mitchell, and it might be reluctant to trade size for a smaller wing player.
