The Boston Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs and could be in the market for a superstar. Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be traded this offseason, and the Celtics have been linked to him.
The Celtics reportedly tried trading for him at the trade deadline, and are expected to pursue him again. However, Antetokounmpo has so much leverage that the Celtics cannot simply win a bidding war. Antetokounmpo will have to be willing to go to Boston and sign an extension. Otherwise, a trade would not be worth it.
There are multiple reports about Antetokounmpo’s interest in the Miami Heat, but the Celtics do not seem to be out of the running just yet. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Celtics are still in the running, but Miami may be Antetokounmpo’s preferred destination.
“Sources close to the process consistently say that they believe that Miami is at the top of Antetokounmpo’s current wish list but likewise continue to whisper that the idea of landing in Boston is still in his thoughts somewhere,” wrote Fischer on Tuesday.
Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the NBA and would completely change the dynamic of the Celtics. He and Jayson Tatum would be one of the best duos in the NBA. Adding Antetokounmpo would likely cost the Celtics Jaylen Brown, but Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP and would be an upgrade.
