CBS Sports names one Browns QB a 'winner' after second preseason game

After the Browns’ preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday, many expect the quarterback competition to reach its conclusion. Albeit with a sharp curveball thrown into things following Deshaun Watson’s post-game comments. Despite the ups and downs, it seems that Shedeur Sanders may have worked his way back into the starting role following his performance with the majority of the team’s second- and third-team players.

One group who was impressed by his performance was CBS Sports, as they looked at winners and losers coming out of the second batch of preseason games. One winner in their grouping was Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

They write, “Sanders came out firing after having to wait out a weather delay of nearly an hour, connecting on all four of his passes on the opening drive. That included a fourth-down conversion to tight end Blake Whiteheart and, later on, an 8-yard touchdown pass to Luke Floriea. Sanders had a few of Cleveland’s starters — namely rookies Spencer Fano and Denzel Boston — out there with him, but he was mostly working with backups. . .Overall, it was a strong day for Sanders — 9-for-11, 74 yards, one touchdown, one interception, one sack — and a much better outing than in Week 1.”

The team will now be expected to name a starting quarterback in the coming days, as they have now seen both he and Watson start at this point. When factoring in everything, Sanders makes the most sense, but in the end this will ultimately come down to what head coach Todd Monken decides.
