Caleb university bridges workplace skill gap at 2026 employability fair

Positioning Caleb University undergraduates as technologically adept, resilient, and highly adaptable professionals, he framed graduate recruitment as a strategic investment rather than corporate philanthropy.

“Hiring a graduate of this university is not an act of charity or corporate social responsibility. It is a strategic business decision.”

He encouraged participating students to capitalize on the career fair by building strategic connections with attending corporate leaders seeking interns, management trainees, and future organizational leaders.

Strategic Networking and National Employment Realities

Addressing the systemic challenges confronting Nigerian graduates, the Chairman of the 2026 Employability Fair Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, Strategy, and Administration), Professor Adesola Adetutu Ajayi, highlighted access to professional networks as a critical determinant of career success.

Professor Ajayi noted that while Nigerian universities produce talented graduates, many encounter employment barriers due to limited industry access and lack of strategic mentorship.

She noted that the fair serves as an institutional bridge connecting candidate potential with corporate access.

In her keynote presentation, the Founder of SEED Care and Support Foundation, Mrs. Olanrewaju Oniyitan, challenged undergraduates to view academic degrees as foundational stepping stones rather than ultimate guarantees of career growth.

She stressed that while degrees open initial doors, long-term professional progression requires character, personal integrity, communication skills, and adaptability under high-pressure environments.

“Build yourself before you build your career. The greatest competitive advantage is not your certificate; it is the person you become.”

Program Structure and Measurable Outcomes

Providing an overview of the event structure, the Acting Director of Parents Engagement and Alumni Relations, Dr. Solomon Abiodun Oyeleye, explained that the two-day fair combined practical skill-building with direct employer engagement.

The fair’s operational breakdown featured:

  • Day One: Dedicated intensive workshops focusing on resume optimization, personal branding, mock interview training, and career pathway planning.
  • Day Two: Direct recruiter engagement sessions, where corporate talent heads evaluated candidates for immediate employment openings, internship placements, and professional referrals.

Now in its third edition, the employability fair has established a proven track record of securing job offers and internship placements for Caleb University graduates.

Dr. Oyeleye noted that institutional success is evaluated not only by immediate job placements but also by how effectively students gain clarity on industry expectations and personal positioning.

Broad Corporate Participation

The 2026 edition attracted major corporate stakeholders, multinational brands, media houses, and professional service firms.

Participating organizations included MTN Nigeria, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), NNPC Pension, Trustfund Pensions Limited, Obasanjo Holdings Limited, Revolt Media & TV, Telegenic Media, Tungba 100.9 FM, EasyData Global Development Consulting Limited, KOA Consultants Limited, Shepherdfield Schools, Granville Enthoven Insurance Brokers & Pension, Billsbox Services Limited, SABEMA Farm and Agro Services, Benny Delight of Wellness and Academy, and the SEED Care and Support Foundation.
