SOUTHAMPTON, New York — Bryson DeChambeau hit a 427-yard drive in his first round at the U.S. Open, the second-longest drive on tour this season.

“That’s my longest drive ever on tour, which is great,” DeChambeau said.

It’s actually not his longest. He drove it 428 yards at the 2020 Travelers Championship, benefiting from hitting pavement as his ball also did Thursday.

It is the longest drive at a U.S. Open since Bubba Watson unleashed one 455 yards in 2019 at Pebble Beach.

Wyndham Clark, who leads the U.S. Open by four shots, also has the longest drive on tour this year — 446 yards at the Valspar Championship in March.

DeChambeau, the U.S. Open champ in 2020 and 2024, missed the cut in this year’s first two majors at the Masters and the PGA Championship, his lone PGA Tour starts of 2026 as he otherwise plays on LIV.

He is 1 under through 16 holes of his first round at Shinnecock, which he will finish Friday morning. He is tied for ninth.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” DeChambeau said. “Golf game is in a solid place.”

DeChambeau was asked if he’s doing anything special Thursday night to prepare for Friday,

“Chocolate milk,” he said.
