Deshaun Watson has dealt with a lot of adversity during his time with the Cleveland Browns, some of it self-inflicted, but it’s also important to recognize that for the Browns to be a better team, they probably need the veteran quarterback to be the guy they were expecting when they made a blockbuster trade for him and gave him all the money he was looking for. 

Watson hasn’t been that, and as a result, has dealt with a lot of boos throughout his time with the organization. The last time those boos happened was actually when Browns fans saw him tear his Achilles, and instead of clapping for him and trying to support their quarterback, they booed him. 

When speaking about the backlash he’s taken from the fan base, Watson gave a genuine response to the question, saying he can’t control what others do and is focused on himself and the team.

“At the end of the day, I can’t control what people support. I think that’s their own opinions. I think that all I can do is just put out the best person I am, showcase who I am as a person, as a player, as a teammate, and what I represent as an individual. So outside of that, I can’t focus on what the outside is saying or what they — I have no control over that other than just putting out the best product that I can put out as a person and as a player,” Watson said, per the team.

In Watson’s defense, it has to be tough to hear boos all the time, even if some of them are warranted for his play.

Hopefully, some of the boos can be left behind if he starts playing better, though I understand fans’ skepticism about that, given what we’ve seen over the past few years.
